While there were many award worthy hairdos on the red carpet during the 2016 Golden Globes, Rooney Mara’s intricate braided ponytail topped our list for the most coveted style of the night. Even though you might not be gracing a red carpet anytime soon, this ’do is versatile enough for any formal event or night out on the town. We asked Newbury St. stylist Cathleen Foster for a step-by-step guide on how to get this celeb style:
- Part the top half of hair into a high ponytail, starting at the top of each ear and meeting at the crown of the head, and secure with an elastic. Form a second ponytail by combing hair to the nape of the neck and tie with an elastic. Spray hair at the roots with Tecni.Art Wet Domination and Kérastase Laque Noire for a shiny finish.
- On the top ponytail, braid until you arrive at the beginning of the low ponytail. Integrate the hair from the bottom ponytail with the top ponytail and continue braiding. Secure the bottom with an elastic.
- Using the pancake method, gently tug at the edges of the braid to loosen the plait and create a texturized and effortless look. Spray the entire braid with Kérastase VIP spray for a tousled feel with strong hold.
