How to Repair Winter Damaged Hair

March 28, 2014

Winter has finally relaxed its grip on our fair city, but our hair is still feeling the effects of the past few freezing months. Stop hiding your hair under hats (even the cute ones!) and take a hint from the Easter bunny – hop into spring with soft, shiny, touchable hair. Rehabbing your winter mane can be intimidating with all the new products out there but with SalonCapri owner and lead stylist Nick Penna Jr’s tips, you can easily transform your hair from frightening to flawless in the comfort of your own home!

1. Head to the kitchen for some olive or coconut oil – a tried and true old hair remedy for soft, hydrated tresses. Nick recommendation is to take about 1 tablespoon of household olive oil, rub it in the palms of your hands and then run your hands through damp hair (focusing on the ends). Let it sit for 45 minutes, then rinse it out and voila! Luxurious, touchable hair!

2. Purchase a natural, boar bristle brush to help kick frizz to the curb and add a little sheen to your style. Using this brush on a regular basis will help redistribute oils throughout hair, boosting shine! Nick loves YS Park’s round brushes.

3. Split ends are your hair’s worst nightmare, but they can be prevented! Nick suggests trying an in-home deep conditioning treatment like Kérastase’s Resistance Masque Force Architecte or Shu Uemura’s Silk Bloom Restorative Treatment Masque. Both formulas repair the structure of the hair fiber, strengthen the fiber and provide a nice softening effect to the hair, from roots to ends.

4. If all else fails, nothing beats a little salon TLC! Book an in-salon deep conditioning treatment and trim for the perfect hair health pick-me-up.
