Meet the Stylist: Ashley Mason

June 26, 2014

Introduce yourself!

My name is Ashley Mason and I’m from Dennis, MA. I am a Senior Stylist at SalonCapri’s Newbury Street location.

How many years have you been a part of the SalonCapri team?

I’ve been with the SalonCapri family for nine months!

Where did you study previously?

Before SalonCapri, I studied at the Paul Mitchell School in Cranston, RI. I did my apprenticeship at Antonio Prieto Salon and DeBerardinis Salon in New York.

What techniques do you specialize in?

For my first five years as a stylist, I specialized in hair color only but, since my time at SalonCapri, I have broadened my skill set to include all hair color techniques, cuts and styling!

What inspired you to become a stylist?

I wanted to become a stylist at a very young age. I always enjoyed doing my friends’ hair and make-up as a child, even when I was as young as age five or six! I became truly passionate for the industry in high school and have been working towards my dream ever since.

Which favorite hair care product has been in constant rotation for you behind the chair?

I love the entire Shu Uemura Ultra Remedy line. It’s my hair healing go-to!

Which celeb haircut and/or color do you love right now and why?

I love Beyonce’s new bob and I’ve always adored the classic and natural balayage highlights that Gisele Bundchen rocks. Her look is timeless!

What are your favorite hair colors or style trends right now?

I love bobs for the spring – I’ve been cutting so many of them this season! As far as color trends, I like lots and lots of balayage and natural sun-kissed highlights in all different tones and levels, depending on my client’s skin tone and overall base hair color.

What advice would you give a client who wants to try something new or different with their hair?

It’s always fun to try something new and different but you have to be prepared for the maintenance that can often come with it!

What hair products should everyone have in their arsenal at home?

Look no further than Kérastase Resistance Ciment Thermique! It not only helps to protect and repair hair from the stress of heat styling, but it also works to mend damage and fortify hair fiber from the inside out. It can also be layered with any other leave-in products that I need to work with on a particular style.  It’s definitely a must-have.
