Meet the Stylist – Cathe Nunes

October 1, 2015

Introduce yourself!

Hi! My name is Cathe Nunes, I live in Bedford and I’m a senior stylist at SalonCapri Boston.

How many years have you been a part of the SalonCapri team?

I am brand new to the team at SalonCapri! But, I have been a stylist/colorist on Newbury St. for almost 25 years.

Where did you study previously?

I feel like I am always studying new cuts, color and styles. I attend various hands-on training courses and shows several times a year, in addition to in salon classes. Previously, I was a color educator for Redken and worked with their national artists at Redken’s shows. That experience gave me a great understanding of color, which I now apply to my techniques when using any color brand.

What do you specialize in?

Since I enjoy a lot of what I do, it’s hard to pick a specialty! I like to solve problems: giving flat hair volume and body or smoothing frizzy hair. I love the challenge of choosing a color that flatters a client’s skin and eye color, creating dimension or brightening hair with highlights. I like to give a haircut that falls into place effortlessly with a great shape even when you don’t style it.

What inspired you to become a stylist?

I have always enjoyed styling hair since I was a young girl. Having four sisters gave me lots of practice. When I was young I always noticed hairstyles wherever I went and on TV, which made me want to go into hair styling.

Which celeb haircut and/or color are you loving right now and why?

I love that the bob is so fun and versatile now. I love Jessica Alba’s bob and with her soft balayage highlights that give her cut more dimension. I am seeing more celebrities with long and short bobs and they all have a little texture, which is great. They no longer look conservative; it’s more of an edgy or sexy look now.

What are your favorite hair colors or style trends right now?

I love the rich mocha colors. They are the perfect choice to tone down summer blonde but are not too warm. And of course reds are fun for fall, like a deep cranberry.

What advice would you give a client who wants to try something new or different with their hair?

I always try and talk to my client about how the new style will change their look and advise them on the upkeep. It’s important for them to know how often they should come back to maintain the color or cut.
