Meet the Stylist: Jamie Champagne

August 20, 2014

Introduce yourself!

My name is Jamie Champagne, I’m originally from Fall River, MA. I am a Senior Stylist in our Legacy Place, Dedham location. I am also the Director of Education for the entire SalonCapri company.

How many years have you been a part of the SalonCapri team?

I have been a part of the SalonCapri family for about 6 ½ years.

Where did you study previously?

I began my training in Massachusetts then continued while I was living in Hawaii. While I was living there, I traveled to Vegas and LA many times for training classes. Since I’ve moved back to Massachusetts, I have traveled countless times to New York to attend the L’Oréal Professionnel SOHO Academy.  I was also invited to be a member of the Kérastase Technical Team, which has also tremendously added to my arsenal of knowledge.

What do you specialize in?

I would  say my specialty would be color and color correction. I absolutely love all aspects of being a hairstylist; however, I have to say, I love the challenge of creating beautiful colors.

What inspired you to become a stylist?

Even as a child, I always loved playing with my hair and giving my friends new looks.  As small children, I remember me and my older sister and playing with mannequin heads in my living room. I was a Biology major in college and, for a while, I thought that was my path in life, but quickly realized that my true passion has always been (and always will be) hair styling and making people feel and look beautiful!

Which favorite hair care product has been in constant rotation for you behind the chair?

My favorite products that are in constant rotation are Kérastase Elixir Ultime and Forme Fatale. Elixir Ultime is a great multi-use oil that can be used pre- or post-styling. It delivers ultimate shine, deep conditioning and nourishment. In addition to promoting cellular renewal, it also adds softness, strength and smoothness. The Forme Fatale is an extra-fine textured blow dry gel that perfectly shapes hair to give all-over volume and body that lasts. This product can also be used pre- and post-blow drying and provides a flexible hold for my beautiful curly blow-outs. I always mix the two together and apply before the blow-out and again at the end as a finishing product to tame any static or fly-aways.

Which celeb haircut and/or color are you loving right now and why?

Scarlet Johansson has a new short and sassy look that I love right now. It is textured and messy with a bright and sunny hue.

What are your favorite hair colors or style trends right now?

My favorite color trends right now are fun and bright. Many celebs are experimenting with violet hues and block coloring.

What advice would you give a client who wants to try something new or different with their hair?

I would say “Go for it!” I tell people all the time to try something new. Why not? If you are nervous, ask your stylist because he or she usually knows what you will be comfortable with in terms of maintenance. If you still aren’t sure, just start slow and make small changes.  One thing I do all the time is change up my clients’ glosses. Glossing is a semi-permanent hair color that essentially does just that; glosses the hair. It gives huge shine and can subtly change your current hue; sometimes that is all you need to feel like there is some change.

What hair products should everyone have in their arsenal at home?

I say – no matter what – everyone needs a tailored Kérastase shampoo. There is one for everyone for every hair need. My philosophy is that you have to start right from the beginning. Amazing hair starts with the condition; healthy hair is the most beautiful, after all. You wouldn’t wash a silk blouse in dishwasher soap, right? Same thing – take care of your hair from the inside out and I guarantee you will notice a difference.
