I’m Jillian, a senior stylist at the Newton Highlands SalonCapri location.
What are your credentials?
I went to a trade school for high school knowing early on that I wanted to get into the beauty industry. I’ve also been lucky enough to attend many classes at the L’Oréal Professionnel Academy in New York, taught by some of the top stylists in the industry.
How many years have you been a part of the SalonCapri team?
I’ve been with SalonCapri for five awesome years.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I truly enjoy all aspects of my job. I love that every single day is different and that I get to help people feel good about themselves.
What do you specialize in?
I love natural-looking color, and enjoy doing balayage. I’ve always been a fan of working with long hair and value that my long-haired clients put their trust in me to keep their hair healthy. That being said, I recently just chopped off my long hair and really like when my clients come in for a drastic change.
What inspired you to become a stylist?
I’ve always been inspired by the beauty and fashion industry. And I’m grateful that I have a job where I get to be creative every day.
What is your #1 hair care or styling tip?
Always use a heat protectant and don’t wash your hair every day – it doesn’t need it!
Which favorite hair care product has been in constant rotation for you behind the chair to use on clients?
Nectar Thermique by Kérastase has been my favorite for a long time now. It’s super moisturizing, but also not too heavy and is a great protectant before doing any heat styling.
I always love what Chrissy Teigen’s doing with her hair. She’s always changing it up, whether it be a blunt lob or long blonde waves. Her hair always looks healthy and fashion-forward.
What are your favorite hair colors or style/cuts right now?
This time of year I notice my clients are always itching for a change. I’m loving the collarbone-length bob trend right now. Even though people tend to deepen their color this time of year, that style still has tons of natural-looking dimension.
What do you predict is going to be one of the hair trends for Winter 2017?
I see a lot of natural-looking texture this season for hair trends. I also see side parts coming back into play, which I love. One of my favorite aspects about fashion is seeing trends come back in a totally reinvented way.
What hair products should everyone have in their arsenal at home?
I always say a good shampoo and conditioner is key. I’m currently obsessed with Kérastase’s Bain Magistral. It’s very moisturizing and leaves the hair soft and shiny. Pro tip: always make sure you choose the correct shampoo and conditioner for your hair type/texture and color.
