Meet The Stylist – Marie Orlando

April 19, 2018

Introduce yourself!

Hi! My name is Marie Orlando. I’m originally from Quincy, Massachusetts, and I’m a Junior Stylist at our Newbury Street location.

What are your credentials?

Prior to becoming a Licensed Cosmetologist, I studied hair at the Toni & Guy Hair Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts.

One of my favorite things about SalonCapri is that they’re all about giving their employees as much education as possible – we’re gifted with endless opportunities. A two year apprenticeship consisting of L’Oréal Color Classes, cutting classes with Owner and Lead Stylist, Nick Penna, and L’Oréal, Kérastase and Shu Uemura product knowledge classes are mandatory and so valuable.

Working for SalonCapri has given me the opportunity to work with Master Stylist, Laura Penna Shaw. I’ve learned so much from her, including: how to manage a fully booked schedule, and being able to interact with and work with clients in different ways. I’m lucky enough to say that my education opportunities are ongoing and a huge part of my career.

How many years have you been a part of the SalonCapri team?

It will be three years this coming fall.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Being able to make people look and feel beautiful is what I love most. Seeing someone’s confidence change is such an amazing thing to be a part of and feel like I’ve contributed to.

What do you specialize in?

All forms of blonding. Whether it be a traditional foil or full balayage or babylights, I can make you lighter and brighter. I also love to express my creativity when it comes to special occasion up-do styling and bridal looks.

What inspired you to become a stylist?

I have always been fascinated by the beauty industry. Even at a very young age, I was always asking my mom for makeup and wanting her to take me to the hair salon.

What is your #1 hair care or styling tip?

Always use a heat protectant to shield your hair from natural and color/styling-related elements. Kérastase’s Thermique collection is suitable for every hair type whether you have dry, damaged or rebellious hair. My personal favorite is Nectar Thermique because it gives your hair a dose of the moisture it’s lacking while adding a beautiful, healthy shine.

What are your favorite hair colors or style/cuts right now?

Right now it’s all about texture. I’m obsessed with rocking that undone, beachy wave so having a textured haircut, whether it short or long, is key for making the most of the style.

What advice would you give any client that is looking to do something different with their hair?

Keeping the integrity of your hair is always the goal, so if you are looking for a big change (in terms of color or cut), start out with baby steps and gradually go from there. No one wants to have that ‘buyer’s remorse’ feeling in the salon chair after diving too fast into a dramatic transformation.

What hair products should everyone have in their arsenal at home?

One of the Thermique options by Kérastase, depending on your hair type. Shu Uemura’s Texture Wave is an amazing product for when you want to achieve that lived-in look, effortless look.
