Meet the Stylist: Shannon Hilliard

May 15, 2015

Introduce yourself!

My name is Shannon Hilliard and I’m originally from Auburn, NH. I am a Senior Stylist at SalonCapri Newton.

How many years have you been a part of the SalonCapri team?

I have proudly been a part of the team for the past seven years.

Where did you study previously?

I studied at Continental Academy in Manchester, NH and also took classes at Soho Academy.

What do you specialize in?

I love giving amazing color! Everything from foiling, to ombré, to balayage. I also specialize in cuts for long hair.

What inspired you to become a stylist?

Ever since I was young I’ve always had a passion for making people feel good about themselves, and I love being able to do that through hair! I also like being artistic, so to be able to express that through hair is something that inspired me to become a stylist.

Which favorite hair care product has been in constant rotation for you behind the chair?

I love Shu Uemura Satin Design for providing weightless conditioning and a silky touch. Shu Uemura Cotton Uzu is also great for adding a flexible hold and lightweight finish to hair. One product I always use is Kerastase Nectar Thermique, my favorite heat protective primer!

Which celeb haircut and/or color do you love and why?

I love Jennifer Lopez’s hair! Her color is so soft and natural.

What are your favorite hair colors or style trends right now?

Right now I’m loving soft browns and natural looking blonde. It’s a soft and subtle look that grows out beautifully.

What advice would you give a client who wants to try something new or different with their hair?

One of my policies as a stylist is that I’m always honest with my clients. I give them my honest opinion if what they want is best for their hair, so always ask your stylist before trying something new.

What hair products should everyone have in their arsenal at home?

I suggest the L’Oreal Professionnel Lumino Contrast collection to brighten and enhance hair, and also the Kerastase Nectar Thermique to protect your hair from heat styling at home.
