Meet The Stylist – Teryn Brewer

June 8, 2018

Introduce yourself!

Hi! My name is Teryn, and I’m a stylist at our Newbury Street location.

What are your credentials?

While participating in SalonCapri’s three-year apprenticeship program, I actually spent two of those three years directly assisting our Owner and Master Stylist, Nick Penna. I learned so much from that experience, and the one-on-one mentoring was so important for me as a stylist. Also, I’ve attended multiple classes at the L’Oréal Professionnel Academy in New York City and am really proud to say that I completed their cutting series.

How many years have you been a part of the SalonCapri team?

I have been with SalonCapri for nearly five and a half awesome years!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

My favorite thing about working in the hair industry is getting to play a role in a client’s confidence level. I love helping someone evolve their look and feel good about it when they leave my chair. I also really enjoy the relationships that I get to establish with my clients. I enjoy hearing about their lives and chatting with them like we’re old friends.

What do you specialize in?

I would say that I most often style blonde hair! Balayage, highlights and babylights are the most popular for me, but I enjoy doing everything!

What inspired you to become a stylist?

Honestly, I’ve been obsessed with doing hair since before I can even remember. It was always a passion and a hobby of mine, and when I realized that I could make a career out of it – it was just a given and meant to be.

What is your #1 hair care or styling tip?

The health of the hair is my main concern; healthy hair leads to the best cut and color for a client. At-home hair care (proper nourishment, enough moisture and use of heat-protectants) is so important, especially for those in-between-appointment times. When you’re in the salon, treating yourself to a deep-conditioning treatment is a must! You’ll notice the benefits of it instantly and your hair will thank you.

What are your favorite hair colors or style/cuts right now?

In terms of cut, I can’t get enough of three words: BLUNT. SLEEK. STRAIGHT. Effortless waves are still incredibly popular (especially with summer being just around the corner) because they showcase dimension and color so beautifully. I think the beachy look is definitely here to stay.

For color, I’m loving the soft blonde/natural look (see the photo of my client, below). Adding face-framing light pieces is a great way to enhance your natural color and make it pop.

What advice would you give any client that is looking to do something different with their hair?

I would tell them to go for it! Change is always good – it keeps things exciting and unpredictable. But when a client is looking for a major transformation, I really consult with them and make sure they will be able to style and care for their new hair once leaving the salon.

What hair products should everyone have in their arsenal at home?

I have a bunch of go-to styling products that I use on my everyday clients:

Pre-Blowdry: Ciment Thermique and L’Incroyable Blowdry Lotion by Kérastase

Pre-Heat Styling: Fibre Architecte Serum by Kérastase and the Résistance Series by Kérastase
