As soon as the kids are out of school for summer break, we like to spend as much time as possible at our family beach house in Ogunquit, Maine. If you’ve never visited this coastal town before or if you haven’t been back in awhile and want to know what’s worth checking out, here are our recos…
Fave Hotel for Out-of-Town Guests
HIS: The Beachmere has a great location right on the water. The views are amazing.
HERS: The Anchorage by the Sea Resort is one of my favorites. It has been family owned and operated for over 30 years which gives it a special charm.
Favorite Seafood Spot
HIS: Barnacle Billy’s serves the best lobster rolls and rum punch.
HERS: La Orilla, which offers small plates, including many with fresh seafood like shrimp and mussels. The chefs are from the acclaimed Vermont restaurant, Hen of the Wood.
Local Beach
HIS: Ogunquit’s Rivermouth is my favorite beach because it’s my go-to surf spot.
HERS: I love Ogunquit Beach (we go early and stay late!).
Favorite Shop
HIS: Liquid Dreams Surf Shop for all of my family’s surfing needs. As a bonus, I like to pop into the side restaurant for chips and salsa and the fun tiki bar.
HERS: Ogunquit is pretty limited when it comes to places to shop but when I need something small like a hostess gift, I can always find something at Abacus Gallery.
Favorite Place to Grab a Drink
HIS: Hook’s Chill & Grille on Main Street for a beer and baja-inspired food.
HERS: Northern Union is my pick as a place for a quick glass of rosé before dinner or as a late night stop before heading home.
Favorite Snack/Drink Pit Stop
HIS: Harbor Candy Shop for the dark chocolate almond bark.
HERS: A green juice from the Loveshack Juicery. This place is the real deal – they have the best fresh juices, smoothies and acai bowls. Owners Ryan and Cecile travel the globe in the off-season and bring their inspiration back each summer in the juices.
Activity
HIS: Surfing and mountain biking at Mt. Agamenticus, which is located just 4 miles south of Ogunquit in York.
HERS: Paddle boarding on the Ogunquit River and a 5-mile morning run on Ogunquit Beach.
Weekend Packing List/Outfit
HIS: A Steven Alan short sleeve single needle shirt, Linden Shorts by Vans, and Classic Slip-On Vans.
HERS: A Maine sea beach bag (obviously!), the Left Point Bikini in the color “blue jean” from the Mollusk Surf Shop’s online site, Phantom Island Tank Dress by Roxy, and my favorite Maine accessory, The ROPES bracelet. I love the “Portland” style…I think I buy one every summer…oops!
