Meet Our Educators
Despite being born into one of Boston’s royal families of hair, Nick Penna Jr. never had any intention of following in his parents’ footsteps. However, Nick’s inherent skills, eye for style and natural talent eventually led him to pursue a career in hair, where success quickly followed. In 1995, Nick’s career skyrocketed when, at a young age, he received his first nationally-recognized award from Vidal Sassoon for “Excellence in New Design.” In 2000, he was once again recognized for his impressive styling skills with the Guillaume Award in Berlin, Germany. Most recently, Nick made the COUP Boston 2013 list of Boston-area “Visionaries.” Nick and his team have worked at countless New York Fashion Week runway shows for designers such as Rodarte, Cynthia Rowley, Jason Wu and Betsy Johnson.
Through the years, Nick has expanded the salon’s team of top stylists and remains directly responsible for the education of his staff, working closely with beauty partners such as L’Oreal Professionnel, who chose SalonCapri to be only one of less than 15 salons in the country to house the L’Oreal Professionnel Haircolor Center on premise.
In 2013, Nick became Founding Partner and Creative Director for Be Styled, Nick’s vision of what a blowdry bar concept should be: a place where glamour and convenience meet to provide every client with the “star treatment” experience of a wash and custom hair style.
Nick is routinely called on to share expert hair tips and tricks and his advice has been featured in countless celebrity, beauty and lifestyle magazines such as OK!, Marie Claire, Glamour and Ladies’ Home Journal, and on New England Cable News and FOX television morning show style segments.
He lives with his wife, Amy, and their three children in Newton.
Denise Rossi, SCAA co-owner, and color and finish educator, started her career traveling and working all over Europe. While in Italy, she worked for Di Palma salons – a highly successful salon with multiple locations – as well as DiPalma Hair Academy in Pisa. It is here that she developed a passion for teaching and education. Astonished by how advanced the Europeans were in our beauty industry and at finish work, she made this her focus and trained all over Europe to master her techniques. She took the best of each approach and developed her own method… working over 25 years perfecting them.
After moving back to the States, she worked at, and trained her techniques, to some of the best Boston salons, including Grettacole and Salon Capri. Still working behind the chair at Salon Capri, keeps her finger on the pulse of the industry and the latest trends. When recruited as Director Of Training for the Boston-based Bestyled blow dry lounges, she jumped at the chance to teach her tried-and-true technique, which was ultimately adopted by the brand. For them, she developed the looks, curriculum, and training, and opened numerous locations around the country, while personally training every stylist that worked for the company.
While in Europe and back in the States, Denise has worked and trained for some of the leading beauty companies in the world….Wella, Goldwell, Jacques Dessange, L’oreal, Sebastian, just to name a few.
Denise is blessed with a cult clientele behind the chair… made-up of some of the most discerning and affluent women in the US . She is now excited to be offering her 25 years of international experience and one-of-a-kind technique with you and your salon. These are the same techniques that have made her so popular today. Tim Ro • Backstage with Tim Ro
Timothy’s love for art and fashion is what started his journey in the beauty industry. When trying to decide which art school and route to take, a close friend mentioned hair. Once embarked in this new avenue, he never lost sight of his artist mentality, applying it to all aspects of the industry he could.
Timothy started his beauty career in Boston. In addition to working with multiple high-end salons on Newbury Street, his work has appeared on the runways of New York and Boston Fashion Weeks. He has worked on sets for music videos, film as well as the red carpets of the Oscars, Golden Globes and the Grammy’s. Boston Magazine honored Timothy in 2012 as “Best of Boston-Blow-dry”. Tim also received “RAW:HOLLYWOOD Hairstylist of the Year 2015” from Raw natural born artists. He has studied various facets of the beauty industry, extensively with L’oreal Professionnel and One Styling, in which he was granted an Artistic Technical Trainer role. He currently resides in Los Angeles, as a freelancing editorial artist and continues to be bi-coastal still seeing clients in Boston at Salon Capri and Luxelab at the glen in Bel Air.
Timothy’s approach in the industry has always been to make a client “feel pretty!” He looks at each client as a canvas, ready to be painted. Soft touchable locks, hand painted highlights, and contoured bone structure are his forte. “I want a client to want to touch their hair. It makes me know that they love what they see!”
