The bar has been set extremely high for this year’s Academy Awards red carpet and we can’t wait for Hollywood’s darlings to showcase their best looks yet! While we love watching our favorite celebs strut their way down the red carpet in their gorgeous gowns, our favorite part of awards season is assessing, praising, and critiquing our favorite starlets hairstyles! In preparation for Tinseltown’s biggest night, we made sure to get Nick Penna’s pro hairstyle predictions for this year’s five Best Actress nominees!
Reese Witherspoon is definitely at the top of our “best tressed” list this year – not only did she wow us with her performance (and messy lob) in Wild, she also rocked the Golden Globes red carpet with her signature side swept golden waves – talk about a tress transformation! As a nominee for Best Actress, Nick senses that Reese will keep her look “really romantic and glamorous” and predicts she’ll take it up a notch by “sweeping it into a feminine, embellished side bun.”
Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike successfully channeled her intense, on-screen personality on the red carpet, rocking a sleek center-part updo to the film’s premiere and an edgy, angled bob to the Golden Globes. Nick suggests that she’ll continue this new-found edginess on Oscar Night and opt for “an ultra-modern and sleek updo that showcases her beautiful facial structure.”
Felicity Jones broke into the spotlight this year with her enthralling performance as Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything and so far, she’s been rocking the awards season red carpet with her simple, elegant style! She opted for simple updos for both the Golden Globes and SAG Awards and we would love to see her stray from her comfort zone and mix it up for the Academy Awards. Nick’s prediction? “Felicity has a timeless, elegant style with a touch of tough girl – I can see her rocking an updo with a little bit of body in the crown area and a deep side part with a heavy side band and a chignon in the back.”
Julianne Moore’s recent red carpet looks have been a series of side-swept, very simple, messy waves – Why mess with a good thing? We were in awe over her Golden Globes look and can’t wait to see how she styles her eye-catching red locks on Oscar night! Nick foresees Julianne continuing to rock the long, soft waves, but thinks this year “she’ll opt for a side-swept look with subtle, sleek and glamourous waves cascading over her shoulder.”
Marion Cotillard’s chic, Parisian style and effortless grace in front of the camera always leaves us wishing we had a little of her Je ne sais quoi! At the 2013 Golden Globes, Marion stepped away from her usual side-swept bun and opted for a more modern, style, parting her pin straight strands down the middle. As a Best Actress nominee, Nick “would love to see her with either soft, touchable waves or a simple updo that showcases her beautiful features!”
