Trend Alert: Celebs are Getting the Chop!

October 27, 2014

First it was the adorable Ali Fedotowsky, then Sarah Michelle Geller and Kristin Cavallari and just last month– Lauren Conrad and one of our favorite bloggers, Damsel in Dior, both jumped on the bandwagon, revealing gorgeous collarbone-length-or-shorter choppy manes! So many stunning stars are taking inches off their long, beachy locks and it has us questioning whether or not this playful new “lob” trend has some savvy stylist sense behind it!

We got the lowdown from Cameron Ryan, Senior Stylist at SalonCapri’s Boston location, who got the chop herself last year and has recently cropped the locks of many clients looking to try the fun and versatile style. Here’s her take on chopping your tresses this fall!

Get a Clean and Healthy Gleam
Nobody escapes the sunny days of summer without ending up with some dry and brittle split ends and it’s much harder to cover up damage on long hair. Chemically-treated hair (listen up all you not-so-natural blondes!) can really take a beating during the hot summer days so taking off four or five inches can be the best way to banish breakage and make your locks appear fuller and healthier!

Enjoy Lower-Maintenance Locks
Collarbone-length cuts are incredibly easy to style! Long hair often requires large increments of time to blowdry, straighten and curl but, with a few twists of the curling iron around the face and back, a good cropped cut is much easier to work with and looks great tousled and messy.

Become a Versatile Vixen
You don’t have to give up any of your favorite styles with a collarbone-length chop – your hair can still be worn with braids, twists and certain updos or ironed into a sleek finish. Not to mention, the length looks fantastic with rich colors and balayage highlights!
